Respond safely and keep useful records

Pause before entering. Never step into water that may contact electricity, touch wet electrical equipment, or cross a wet area to reach a breaker or shutoff. Safely photograph damage, record when you discovered it, and contact your insurer promptly. Keep repair and cleanup receipts, ask about claim instructions, and document necessary emergency work.
